Dear Student, Parent or Guardian,
Since 2013 Walnut High School has offered the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences Program. This program begins in the 10th grade and can be taken as a standalone program or in conjunction with our IB Career-related Program.
PLTW Biomedical Science students are tackling real-world challenges – and they’re doing it before they even graduate from high school. Working with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, students engage in compelling, hands-on activities and work together to find solutions to problems. In these courses, students learn highly sought-after knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.
WHS offers all four courses in the Biomedical Sciences Program.
- Principles of Biomedical Science Honors (10th grade)
- Human Body Systems Honors (11th grade)
- Medical Interventions Honors (12th grade)
- Biomedical Innovation Honors (12th grade—capstone course)
Requirements for the program are:
- Be a current 9th-grade student
- B- or better in Biology or Biology Honors
- 3.00 GPA in the Core Academics Courses
Our students continue to achieve great success in the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences Program. Graduates from our PLTW classes in the past have regularly been accepted to UCI, UCLA and UC system schools as well as Harvard, USC and many other prestigious universities.
